  • Gifts for the Person who has Everything

by Nathan Gareau Last updated: November 29, 2023

Ah, the notorious “person who has everything”. It’s usually a dad, maybe a partner, but this individual is by far the most frustrating to buy gifts for. If they want it, they buy it. To add insult to injury, they’re likely incredibly discerning and not easily impressed. Well, as one of those annoying people, I’ve got several high-quality suggestions guaranteed to delight, and chances are, they’re missing at least one of them.

    Hultafors Aby Forest Axe

An axe as a gift? Yes, trust me. Handmade axes have an incredible wow factor, an important thing to consider when choosing for someone picky. In addition to being incredibly cool, the brand has a 300+ year history, and they’re built with heirloom quality in mind. This particular axe is my personal favourite, the jack of all trades everyone needs. This bad boy can fell, split, or just look great on your wall.

    Champagne Saber

It’s been proven scientifically that if you sabre a bottle of champagne at a party, it’s impossible to have a bad time. You get to open a drink with a sword (pretty cool), and you instantly become the talk of the room. Sure, you can use the back end of a chef knife, but that’s pretty boring compared to a CEREMONIAL SWORD! Our Maserin Sabres are crafted beautifully with stunning blades and comfortable handles, and the most essential feature for a sabre: a tassle. They even come in a wooden presentation box, perfect for gifting.

    Thiers Spartacus Straight Razor

Okay, so this one seems a bit wild, but for folks who enjoy learning new skills and hobbies, few skills are as rewarding to master as the straight razor shave. I started my straight razor journey 11 years ago and have loved every shave since. Each one teaches you something new, even a decade later. The shave is incredible, and the pride you get from using one cannot be matched by another shaving device.

The Spartacus is my personal favourite. Like the other gifts, it carries a serious cool factor. Thiers Issard are also the undisputed kings of straight razor making. Their blades get the sharpest and stay sharp the longest. They’re also gorgeous!

    Incredible Soap

Don’t have $200-300 to spend on a present? Well-made soap is a surprisingly delightful gift for any occasion. First, the packaging: stunning presentation is always a winner in the gift world. Once they get to using it, they’ll be delighted every single time they wash their hands or take a shower with the beautiful fragrance and incredible lather. It’s the gift that keeps on giving.

    Frost River Northern Pacific Mitts

Speaking of luxury, get a look at these babies. This isn't Chanel luxury; this is warm hands in a -45-degree blizzard luxury. Frost River crafts their gear for frontier-grade, lifetime quality. Everything is overbuilt from the toughest materials: leather from SB Foot Tannery, the same folks who supply Red Wing Boots, and super thick fleece for intense warmth.

    Chris Green Knife

If someone has been extra good this year, perhaps they deserve a hand-forged knife from Calgary blacksmith Chris Green. Chris is a supremely talented craftsman, paying the utmost attention to every step of the blade-making process. As the proud owner of one of his blades, I can attest to their beauty, quality, and durability. I use mine to bushwhack branches in the backcountry, and haven’t sharpened it in three years. Each blade is unique, making this an extraordinary gift.
